The Security Division develops policies and procedures for the internal DSS Information Security, Personnel Security, Physical Security, Communications Security, and Official Identification (badges, credentials, and Government I.D.) Programs. Additionally, the office orders, maintains, and distributes badge, credential, and identification card supplies to the Badge and Credential Custodians. The Security Division also serves as the NATO Subregistry Control Office and Special Security Contact Office (SCI) for the agency.

The Human Resources Division staff serves as the principal Human Resource advisors to the agency Director, senior management officials, supervisors and employees. HR develops professional recruitment strategies to ensure the hiring and retention of highly motivated and qualified employees. HR coordinates all agency recruitment efforts with the Defense Logistics Agency/Human Resources Center (DLA/HRC), who in turn is responsible for acceptance and referral of resumes to hiring officials. HR is responsible for managing the agency's Employee Relations, Drug Testing, Employee Assistance, Awards and Performance Management Programs.

The role of the Inspector General is to promote independent and objective evaluations of agency programs and processes for the purpose of identifying and promulgating agency best practices, to identify areas for improvement, to promote a systematic program for identifying fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement and security incidents in DSS or other DoD programs and operations, and to address compliance with mandatory DoD governing directives. This function also addresses both internal and external complaints, Hotline allegations, and coordinates with other agency Inspector Generals on appropriate issues.

Security Education, Training & Awareness (SETA) provides DoD security professionals, DoD contractors, employees of other Federal agencies, and selected foreign governments with a security curriculum, awareness products, and professional development services that are relevant and responsive to their needs. Its professional staff of instructors, technology professionals, and education support personnel combine expertise to deliver quality training and professional development products across the security disciplines.
